This starter drive serves as a critical transmission spare part for automotive starter motors. It transfers torque to engage the engine flywheel during ignition and disengages instantly once the engine starts.

At ignition, the starter spins the one-way clutch and pushes the drive gear forward to mesh with the flywheel ring gear and crank the engine. After the engine fires and outruns the starter speed, the built-in overrunning mechanism freewheels to cut off reverse power transmission.
