Once the engine starts, the one-way clutch cuts off reverse power transmission instantly, preventing the flywheel from dragging the starter at high speed and protecting the starter motor. The starter drive is the core power transmission part of the vehicle starter motor. It transfers power from the starter to the engine flywheel during cranking.
